February 2022 Update

While the winter chill continues, work on #611 awaits a little warmer weather. That doesn’t mean things are at a standstill. We are gathering cost estimates for the first stages of work and writing grant applications. First on the list is renewal of the traction motors. The plan is to get them to a contractor ASAP. Lehigh & New England #611 Acquired

The non-profit Railroad & Industrial Preservation Society, Inc (RIPS) is pleased to announce the acquisition of Lehigh & New England Railroad #611, one of America’s most historic diesel locomotives. Built in 1948 by the American Locomotive Company of Schenectady, NY #611 helped the Lehigh & New England (LNE) become one of the country’s first fully dieselized railroads.
